Shotokan is one of the styles of Karate that emerged from the teachings imparted by Sensei Gichin Funakoshi and his son, Yoshitaka Funakoshi. The technical repertoire of the style was based on that of Shorin-ryu, but due to studies undertaken by the master's son and his influence, various techniques were incorporated and/or modified to reflect the desired scope.
