Starring actor Carlos Miranda, O Vigilante Rodoviário was probably the most successful Brazilian series of the 1960s. It is still remembered today by those who were children during that time. See below some interesting facts about O Vigilante Rodoviário and its protagonist, Inspector Carlos. The Brazilian series O Vigilante Rodoviário was created and directed by filmmaker, screenwriter and actor Ary Fernandes. Ary Fernandes is known for having directed/produced more than 130 films, as well as commercials and TV series. In addition to O Vigilante Rodoviário, he created the series Águias de Fogo, where he played the role of Captain César. The series was supposed to be called O Patrulheiro, but it changed its name because of the chocolate brand Toddy, which shortly before its premiere, launched a foreign series called Patrulheiros Toddy. The Highway Patrolman was played by actor Carlos Miranda, a São Paulo native born in the Mooca neighborhood in 1933. Carlos Miranda had to compete for the role of Inspector Carlos with 127 other candidates. But before getting into the role of the character, he also had to attend classes at the Jundiaí Highway Patrol School. Lobo, the German Shepherd dog, was actually called King. He died in 1965. The Highway Patrolman premiered on the now-defunct TV Tupi in January 1962. It aired 38 episodes over three seasons. The vehicles used by Inspector Carlos, the protagonist played by Carlos Miranda, were a 1952 Harley-Davidson motorcycle and a 1959 Simca Chambord. The Simca used in the series was dismantled after it ended. Carlos Miranda spent years searching for the parts until he was able to reassemble it in 1998. The motorcycle is still on display in a museum in Bebedouro, in the interior of São Paulo. Most of the episodes were filmed on the Anhanguera highway, which connects the capital of São Paulo to the city of Campinas. Detail: the preference was for kilometer 38, where it is sunny most of the year. Carlos Miranda identified so much with Inspector Carlos that, at the end of the series, he became a real highway patrolman. In fact, he was cited in the Guinness Book as the only actor in the world who transformed himself into his own character.
