Shanghai Science and Technology Press Co., Ltd., also known as Shanghai Science and Technology Press, was founded in 1956 under the name of Science and Technology Press. In the early days, it accepted many private publishing houses. In April 1958, Shanghai Science Popularization Press was incorporated; in August, it merged with Shanghai Health Press and changed its name to Science and Technology Health Press. In 1959, it was renamed to its current name. In August 2003, it was merged into Shanghai Century Publishing Group. With the main features of publishing books and periodicals on natural sciences, engineering technology, medicine and health, practical readings, and popular science, it is one of the first batch of "National Excellent Publishing Houses" commended by the Central Propaganda Department and the General Administration of Press and Publication. In 2009, it was awarded the honorary title of "National Top 100 Book Publishing Units" by the General Administration of Press and Publication, and in 2010, it was awarded the title of the first batch of "National Civilized Units in the Press and Publication Industry". In 2011, it won the "Advanced Publishing Unit Award of the Second China Publishing Government Award", and was awarded the title of Shanghai Civilized Unit (2007-2016). In 2017, it was rated as a National Civilized Unit.
