Motomiya Sake Shop Co., Ltd. is located in Uonomachi, Uwamachi, Seiyo City. During the Edo period, when it flourished as a post town for the Uwajima Domain, documents show that there were five sake breweries, including our brewery, along a 200m street. During the sake brewing season, breweries competed to draw spring water to use in the brewing process, and it was so lively that it became a seasonal event. The high altitude provides the winter cold necessary for sake brewing, and the fertile land has long been famous as a rice-producing area, with natural water constantly gushing out from Ameyama (Tsubogaya) behind our brewery. With this perfect climate for sake brewing and an abundance of rice and water, Motomiya Sake Shop has been making sake continuously for 200 years since the Kansei era of the Edo period.
