The Vehbi Koç Foundation Sadberk Hanım Museum was opened to visitors on October 14, 1980 as the first private museum in Turkey. Initially consisting of the personal collection of Vehbi Koç's wife Sadberk Koç, the number of works in the Museum is now close to 20,000, including Turkish-Islamic works and archaeological works. The museum management focuses on collecting rare examples of the Ottoman Period and Turkish art within the Museum. In particular, the collection of Iznik tiles and ceramics, women's costumes from the Ottoman Period and embroidery has gained a considerable place among world collections in terms of its quality. The museum collection continues to grow rapidly with donations and works purchased from home and abroad. The Sadberk Hanım Museum aims to transfer the cultural heritage in the Museum to future generations by collecting the most distinguished examples of Ottoman art, from calligraphy to silk fabrics, as well as works from the Archaeological and Early Islamic Period, and by providing the necessary preservation conditions. In addition to its permanent exhibitions, it aims to integrate with all segments of society with temporary themed exhibitions, scientific publications and educational programs, and serves as an educational and cultural institution that contributes to the artistic and scientific development of society within the framework of a contemporary museum approach, and allows people to enjoy while they are informed. Sadberk Hanım Museum presents works belonging to Anatolian and Turkish culture from the 6th millennium BC to the present day to its visitors in a chronological arrangement. It has established a good example of its kind as a museum with its display cases reflecting the Ottoman house and Ottoman customs. It has taken its place as an institution that is well-known and valued in the national and international scientific world, in the museum community as a member of ICOM, and among local and foreign people who are familiar with world culture. The museum enables scientific research and helps promote Turkey by lending works to many exhibitions in Turkey and abroad. While handling these studies seriously and with discipline, it takes part in joint projects with state museums affiliated with the Ministry of Culture.
