Natalie Dedreux

My name is Natalie Dedreux and I am 22 years old. I have Down syndrome. Down syndrome is not an illness. We have one chromosome too many, we have 47 chromosomes, the rest of you have 46 chromosomes. I live here in Cologne. I don't live here alone, I live in a shared apartment. There are four people in total, two with and two without Down syndrome. We live together. I moved out of home because then I can make my own decisions. I went to the inclusive comprehensive school in Holweide. The education is better in the inclusive school. That way you can do more other jobs. I am still employed in the workshop. But I have an outside job. I am still working from home because of Corona. I am an activist and fight for people with Down syndrome. I do that on the internet and on Instagram and on TV and sometimes in real life. My dream job is as a journalist. Of course, I like working for Ohrenkuss the most. It is a magazine where only people with Down syndrome write. https://ohrenkuss.de/ohrenblog/page-1.html So I had the courage to speak to Ms Merkel and asked her my brave question: Why is it allowed to abort babies with Down syndrome until shortly before birth? I received an award from Lebenshilfe for this, the Bobby. It now stands in my house and I am proud of it. I think my life is good because I am so well recognized. I think it's cool that people see and read about me on TV and in the newspaper. I think it's cool to be famous. Then people see how cool people with Down syndrome are. I hope that they will then have fewer abortions.
