The Department of Older Persons Affairs (DOP) is a government agency under the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security. It was established on March 6, 2015, in accordance with the Act on the Improvement of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (No. 14) B.E. 2558. Its missions are to promote and develop potential, provide welfare, and protect the rights of the elderly by proposing policies, developing academic work on measures, mechanisms, knowledge, and innovations in operations, promoting and supporting academic and operational work in target areas under the integration of cooperation of all relevant sectors, with the mechanism of local administrative organizations and the elderly clubs as the core of operations in the form of “partners in the development of the elderly”, including monitoring and evaluating operations. The Elderly Welfare Development Center and the Elderly Learning and Training Center are under its supervision as one-stop learning and development centers (model centers) for a better quality of life and to enhance the security of the elderly.
