The Australasian Journal of Disaster and Trauma Studies (AJDTS) is an open-access, peer-reviewed electronic journal for collating and distributing original research into social aspects of natural hazards, disasters, and related psychological trauma, with a focus on Australasia. Our readers include researchers, policy analysts, and emergency managers. As part of our aim to reduce the gap between research and practice, we publish several types of articles. These include research papers led by members of academic institutions and practice notes led by practitioners as a way to share their community or policy work. There are no costs to either authors or readers so that there are no financial barriers to those wanting to contribute to the journal or read the work published. Articles published in our journal contribute to academic knowledge of psychology relating to natural hazards, disasters, and trauma as well as informing policy and practice to save lives and property in the event of disasters such as earthquakes, tsunami, wildfires, volcanic eruptions, and flooding. These hazards are prevalent in Australasia due to the active geology of the region and the effects of climate change but they are also significant challenges faced in many other areas globally. The work published in this journal therefore has important international relevance. Key topics covered in this journal include: preparedness, mitigation, coping, trauma, risk perception, risk reduction, community resilience, organisational resilience, psychosocial impacts, impacts on first responders, considerations for minority groups, planning, response, and recovery.
