We have collected Scandinavian antiques that are not well known yet, traditional crafts from over 100 years ago, early Arabia and Gustavsberg pottery, warm embroidery and lace made by Scandinavian grandmothers, slightly funny toys and objects handmade by someone, antiques that are tattered and have been cherished by someone, and more. - - -The name of our shop, Troldhaugen, means "hill where fairies live" in Norwegian. This fictional place actually exists in Bergen, Norway. It is the name that composer Grieg gave to the area when he built his new house on the banks of an inlet on the outskirts of Bergen. The view from his former composing hut facing the fjord is rich in nature and very beautiful. The name alone makes it seem like a fictional place, but I was attracted to the fact that it "actually exists." And when I first saw Troldhaugen in a photo, I felt like I had found the "somewhere other than here" that I had been looking for. We started this shop with the hope that our antiques could give people a sense of that "somewhere that exists but doesn't exist, somewhere that is not here." Although our antiques are categorized as Scandinavian antiques, we hope that our shop can become a "somewhere" for someone, so we do not currently have a physical store and are mainly active at antique markets.
