The Regional Basin Authority of Sardinia was established with Regional Law 19/2006, "Provisions on water resources and hydrographic basins" which regulated the functions of governance of water resources, in terms of quantity and quality, and of the hydrogeological structure of the regional territory. Subsequently, with art. 51 of Law no. 221/2015 established new rules on the matter which confirmed Sardinia as a single Hydrographic District.
