With this portal, the Chamber of Deputies has equipped itself with a single, stable and shared publication platform for documentation and information on its activity, starting from the first legislature of the Savoy Parliament of 1848 up to the legislature preceding the current one. On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Unification of Italy, a comprehensive intervention was launched to organize, arrange and standardize the digital materials of the Chamber; therefore, a collection and publication tool on the Web was created, which allows: to offer integrated research of all available documentary material and immediate access to the related digital resources, through an intuitive faceted navigation; to receive the documents that will become available in the years to come, following new digitalization initiatives or in relation to the performance of the activity of the parliamentary bodies. The technical infrastructure of the portal is based on a single data repository in open RDF-XML format, structured on the basis of a general ontology, which describes the Chamber domain through the various articulations of its bodies and the documents produced during its activity. The chosen approach guarantees the persistence over time and the intelligibility of the data collected, regardless of the technical tool used to generate them. The use of Semantic Web standards and adherence to the principles of Linked Data (data accessible from a variety of applications, integrable with data from different sources, easily updated and increased) guarantee that the entire heritage or specific sections of it can be reused in different application contexts, even by a plurality of subjects. For this reason, the historical Portal has been accompanied by the publication of a portal dati.camera.it, which allows access, download and reuse of all published data, for a total of over a million records and documents. This set of resources is described by a single data model, identified by a specific namespace, OCD (Ontologia Camera dei Deputati), an OWL ontology (Ontology Web Language) expressed in RDF triples: a triple is an assertion (statement), the minimum information unit, divided into subject (subject), relation (predicate) and object (object). All the portal data are, therefore, available as Linked Open Data, an information heritage consisting of over 13.4 million triples.
